Numerical Modeling in Flood Risk Assessment: UK Case Study- Juniper Publishers

In addition to economic and social damage, floods may have severe environmental consequences. In 2007, Britain faced a summer of devastated storms, with thousands of homes and businesses under water, and thirteen fatalities. Although the UK Government has hugely invested in outstanding research and defenses to overcome this problem, the 2015 winter floods on Cumbria seemed to indicate that nothing has changed. Some of the reasons for increasing flood scenarios are out of the Civil Engineers' scope. Climate change as well as in appropriat

The Implication of Analysis Module on Vehicle Bridge Interaction Modelling- Juniper Publishers

Image
Juniper Publishers- Journal of Civil Engineering Abstract Bridge structures are susceptible to devastating failures ascribing to the continuous strength reduction over time, as well as the unprecedented increase in freight volumes. Therefore, understanding the dynamic response of bridges due to moving traffic, specifically heavy trucks, has attracted the interest of the highway engineers. To this end, Vehicle Bridge Interaction (VBI) modelling has been adopted as a reliable and effective approach to mimic bridge vibrations under transit traffic. The decoupled VBI modelling is based upon solving the vehicle and the bridge equations of motion separately, by equating the contact forces between the vehicle and the bridge at each time step. The equations of motion can be solved either implicitly or explicitly. Implicit analysis directly solves for the displacement vector {x}, which consequently requires calculation of inverse of stiffness matrix. Whilst explicit anal

The Efficiency Evaluation of Applying Poly Ferric Sulfate and Perlite for Filtration- Juniper Publishers

Image
Juniper Publishers- Journal of Civil Engineering Abstract The horrible quality of water from sand filters leads us to study on the basis and sieving for this sort of filtration. In addition, we assessed surface charges in the style of 4 samples regarding chemical treatment from two areas before going to water treatment plant and from output. Our inspection demonstrated that the combination of perlite and certain dosage of poly ferric sulfate with the filter surface 60% of surface charge shows desirable efficiency. Keywords: Ferric; Perlite; Turbidity; Liquor; Urbanaization Abbrevations: Al: Aluminum; Fe: Iron; PACI: Poly Aluminum Chloride; DOC: Dissolved Organic Carbon Introduction Growing population, improving of living standards, urbanization, industrial development and agriculture are the main factors that increased water consumption and waste water production in the community, consequently giving rise to envir

A Note on Three-Dimensional Scattering and Diffraction by a Hemispherical Canyon, II: Normal Incident P- Point Source- Juniper Publishers

Image
Juniper Publishers- Journal of Civil Engineering Abstract This paper revisits the boundary-valued problem of the three-dimensional (3-D) scattering and diffraction of seismic spherical waves by a hemispherical canyon in an elastic half-space, a problem of interest to both earthquake engineers and strong-motion seismologists. The analytical solution of normal incidence of plane P-wave (axi symmetric) has recently been presented in [ 1 ], using the half-range expansion of odd-order Legendre polynomials in terms of even-order Legendre polynomials. The use of excitation by plane harmonic waves is common in many studies of the amplification phenomena by surface and subsurface topographies. It is assumed and reasoned that when the spherical (3-D) and/or cylindrical (2-D) wave fronts are sufficiently far from the earthquake source, such plane wave approximation is adequate. The case of 2-D SH-wave source was recently studied by [ 2 ]. The results are compared with that f
